Category: Annual Report and Accounts

Each year the BBC reports to licence fee payers and audiences in the Annual Report and Accounts. The Annual Report and Accounts are formally laid in Parliament in accordance with the requirements of the Charter. Usually this happens in July.   They are also published on the BBC’s website.

The Annual Report is published in two parts.  Part 1 is the BBC Trust’s review and assessment of BBC performance during the year.  Part 1 also includes information about the work of the Trust and the costs of running the Trust.   Part 2 is the BBC Executive’s report on its own performance during the year.

The BBC’s financial statements (the “accounts”) are prepared by the BBC Executive and audited by independent auditors before being presented to the Trust and laid in Parliament.

In addition to the Annual Report and Accounts, the BBC is required to lay a television licence fee trust statement in Parliament.  This is shows the revenue receivable from Licence Fee payers, in accordance with the Accounts Direction given by HM Treasury in accordance with Section 2 of the Exchequer and Audit Departments Act 1921.
