Statement on Newsnight
On 2nd November 2012, Newsnight broadcast a report into child sex abuse in North Wales care homes in the 1970s and 1980s, in which it was claimed that two victims had been abused by a ?leading Conservative politician from the Thatcher years?. Online speculation identified the subject of the report as Lord McAlpine. After the allegation was shown to be untrue, Newsnight broadcast an apology, on 9th November. The Trust issued the following statement.
