Summary of complaint
We received complaints from people who felt insufficient coverage was given to Extinction Rebellion's 'The Big One' protest which took place in London from 21-24 April 2023.
Our response
Many marches and protests take place in cities around the UK and we’re unable to cover all of those that take place or provide the level of coverage that many in our audience would ideally like. Stories, and the amount of time we spend on them, are chosen due to their editorial merit.
That said, this four-day demonstration by Extinction Rebellion - named 'The Big One' - was the lead item on BBC London News in bulletins on both 21 and 22 April, and was also highlighted on Points West on 21 April. The protest was again mentioned within our coverage of the London Marathon, noting that Extinction Rebellion had been working with organisers and promised to protest peacefully without disrupting the race.
We also provided coverage of the protest on radio outlets like BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Essex, as well as on the BBC News website:

In our wider news reporting, we have also consistently covered issues relating to climate change, and will continue to do so across our BBC News output in future.
